How to join UTA

I. Membership Categories
Individual membership is for a translator/interpreter (an individual).

Collective membership is for a translation company/agency (a legal entity).

II. Member Status

Independent Member (IM)
An individual or a collective member who does not deal with translation on a professional basis, but takes interest in UTA activities and shares its aims and tasks and takes part in UTA work.

Associated Member (AM)
An individual or a collective member who is a professional translator/interpreter, takes interest in UTA activities, shares its aims and tasks, and takes part in UTA work.

This status is granted to those who do not completely meet the requirements established for the Full Members.

Full Member (FM)
An individual or a collective member who is a professional translator/interpreter residing in Ukraine, meets UTA certification requirements, and follows UTA Code of Professional Conduct.

III. Membership Criteria. Member's Rights

1. INDIVIDUAL MEMBER (IM)

CRITERIA

IM is an individual aged 18 and above or a legal entity who does not deal with translation on a professional basis, but takes interest in UTA activities and shares its aims and tasks and takes part in UTA work.

RIGHTS

IM has a right to obtain general information on translation services rendered by different translators and companies in Ukraine and abroad.
IM receives periodicals issued by UTA and obtains information from UTA data bases.
IM has no right to hold positions in UTA or to use UTA logo or to refer to UTA membership for advertising purposes.
IM does not take accreditation examination.
IM may participate in conferences held by UTA with no vote.

2. ASSOCIATED MEMBER (AM)

CRITERIA

AM is an individual aged 21 and above or a company dealing with translation on a professional basis.

AM shares UTA aims and tasks and takes part in its activities.

AM has no right to hold a position in UTA.

RIGHTS

AM has a right to obtain general information on translation services rendered by translators and companies in Ukraine and abroad. AM receives periodicals issued by UTA and obtains information from UTA data bases.
AM has a right to participate in joint projects and conferences, to enjoy legal and technical support in the field of translation.
AM may apply for the status of a full member not earlier than in six months after continuos membership in UTA as an associated member.
AM has no right to use UTA logo for advertising purposes.

3. FULL MEMBER (FM)

CRITERIA

FM is an individual aged 21 and above who is a professional translator/interpreter, having passed UTA accreditation, residing in Ukraine, and following the Code of Professional Conduct.

FM is a company dealing with translation on a professional basis, meeting the requirements of the standards STTU APU 001-2000 and STTU APU 002-2000 or having ISO certified quality system, and following the Code of Professional Conduct.

FM enjoys all the rights and privileges stipulated by the UTA Charter.

RIGHTS

FM has a right to profit UTA data base and other information provided by other translators and companies concerning translation activities.
FM has a right to hold a position in UTA and be elected to the governing bodies of UTA.
FM has a right to receive letters of recommendation from UTA, to use UTA's logo for advertising purposes.
FM has a right to legal and technical support in the field of translation activity.
FM has a right to participate in joint projects and education programs, to make proposals as to implementation of UTA's tasks.
FM has a right to participate in management of UTA and to take vote at Conferences.
FM is granted with a certificate of a full member.

UTA's members shall follow the Code of Professional Conduct.

All the members shall pay the entrance and monthly fees.

A UTA candidate shall fill in the application form and submit copies of the qualification documents.

A full member candidate should pass a 6-month period of associated membership in UTA.

A full member candidate should pass the accreditation examination.
